Decahydronaphthalene (decalin, also known as bicyclo[4.4.0]decane), a bicyclic organic compound, is colorless liquid with an aromatic odor. It is an important derivative product from naphthalene. Decahydronaphthalene occurs in cis and trans forms, which is used in industry widely.

Decalin is used as solvent to dissolve resin, wax, grease, oil paint and plastic. It improves flowability, gloss and smoothness of oil paints.

High Performance Fiber

Decalin is the best solvent used in producing ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber by dry spinning process. The strong dissolving capacity makes it easily to dissolve high molecular weight polyethylene in lower temperature. Decalin is volatile and is easily separated from high polymers by low temperature inert gas purging.


Liquid Crystal

Decalin is used to synthesize the trans-decalin liquid crystal material which is more suitable for manufacturing top grade TFT liquid crystal display materials.



Decalin can be mixed with benzene and ethyl alcohol. The mixture is the fuel in internal combustion engine. Trans-decalin is an essential additive in aviation kerosene to improve its thermal stability as the thermal stability of trans-decalin is better than long-chain alkane.
